Welcome to
Seoul National University's Department of Biomedical Sciences

The Department of Biomedical Sciences is a place where professors and students make academic discoveries and creations together from the professional knowledge. The Department of Biomedical Sciences, located at the Seoul National University College of Medicine Yeongeon Campus, has 61 professors and 181 students who share the lofty goal of not only expanding intellectual change, but also promoting basic science and human health.
The members of the department pursue 'Quality Upgrading in Biomedical Research' through 'In-Depth Science in Human Physiology and Disorders.' The alumni who graduated from our department’s education and training courses are global talents who lead the medical and life sciences fields around the world.
The history of the Department of Biomedical Sciences is a little over 14 years. Several medical departments at the Seoul National University College of Medicine and clinical medicine professors who are committed to the experimental research and medical application of advanced technology established the convergence-cooperation in 2007. In addition to full support from Seoul National University, the Ministry of Education’s BK project ensures the highest quality support for academics. Therefore, students in the Department of Biomedical Sciences cultivate the research ability to individually answer important questions on the scientific reasons for health and diseases.
By developing a customized curriculum based on the undergraduate background, we prepared cutting-edge information in the field of natural sciences for medical majors and core information in basic medicine for non-medical majors. Along with basic courses that combine knowledge of medicine and life sciences, there are many specialized courses in life sciences such as neuroscience, immunology, oncology, molecular medicine, system information, and bio-imaging. Over the past 14 years, the department has produced more than 450 master's and doctoral graduates who have moved on to develop their dreams through postdoctoral research programs at leading universities and research institutes around the world. The Department of Biomedical Sciences at Seoul National University alumni includes around 10 full-time faculty at Korean universities, many researchers in biopharmaceutical companies, and many researchers in hospital-level research institutes.
Our professors are waiting for ambitious students and researchers with dreams. Let's work to advance ‘science on human physiology and diseases' together. Once again, we welcome everyone who wants to become a world-class medical scientist.
