Research Field
Our researches focus on ocular infectious diseases, such as ocular toxoplasmosis and infectious keratitis. Toxoplasma gondii is an obligate intracellular protozoa that can persist in the tissue as bradyzoite and reactivate causing posterior uveitis. The resultant inflammation can leave scar, permanent damage to neural retina. We are looking for a therapeutic approach for the chronic infection by investigating host immune response and mechanism of reactivation. In addition, we are investigating rapid diagnostic methods for infectious keratitis using meta-genomic approach and investigating microneedle based corneal drug delivery to overcome treatment failure due to absence of effective drug delivery methods. Furthermore, we are providing parasite identification and diagnostic service for specimens coming from hospitals across the country. We also conduct neglected tropical disease(NTDs) control programs in countries in need, such Fiji, Lao and Sudan, and investigate epidemiology and diagnostic methods for NTDs.
